School Advert and Issey Miyake beauty advert

When using Photoshop to create this image, multiple layers and a set background was used to achieve this set look for the beauty advert.I used the blur tool aswell as increase the darkness in the shadowed area to shine the light and draw the main focuse onto the aftershave brand (Issey Miyake). I chose to use a slightly larger font as it almost mimics the writing on the aftershsave bottle, again giving the main reason for the advert more significance. I also changed the colour of the text to mimic the flowers to create that link between the smell of the aftershave and flowers and nature. I increased the vibrance and used the paint tool to increase significance of the colouring of the advert, ensuring that there were no plain or boring colours as i want my after shave to be presented as exciting and vibrant. To further complete this advert to make it even more significant,i could add some sort of lagoon to replace the table top it is on to create a natural aftershave style advert. To do this i would have to use photoshop to edit the table out if the image then crop another image of a lagoon into the picture. The afterhsave bottle has a bright light behind it making it seem almost heroic or holy.Like if you use THIS bottle of aftershave you wil gain the powers it holds. The positioning of the tree almost luring the aftershave, symbolises that the people watching wil be lured into this amazing afterhsave brand.

For the school advert:

What was learnt when using DSLR camera:

When using a DSLR camera there are multiple ways of taking an image for example burst fire shots which take multiple pictures in a short span. However we used the small bird tool image which made the photo much more locked onto the main image, making the background behind it slightly blury. The pop up flash added and extra light to the image, helping reduce shadow and making the image more visible, especially the faces, creating high contrast.

Photoshop:

When using photohop for this advert mainly croping and the use of rectangle bars as used as it was more of a website style advert to inform those about the school rather than getting them to buy something like the aftershave advert. This made the layer rather basic, however the use of the rectangle bars helped break up the text, aswell as the use of pictures to help the reader understand with little to no confusion. The paint tool was also significant as although the picture was simple, i didnt want it to look boring. This meant that the traditional school colours were included, which helped appeal to those who are interested in attending the school and its open evening.

Magazine analysis:

Imagery:shadowed Figure and Staircase

The central image shows a distorted shadow figure creeping up a staircase. This silhouette is reminiscent of classic gothic horror films, such as Noferati, immediately signalling themes of monstrosity.

The high contrast and black and white effect reinforces a sense of fear and moral darkness. Using a shadow rather than a clear face creates an enigma code and the audience is invited to the question of who and what the figure is.

The deep blood-red text connotates violence and danger. It also stands out sharply against the background, drawing the attention in.

Shelter advert:

The reason i chose this advert is because it uses clever techniques to persuade the viewership to donate/help the cause. The sad looking dog pulls on our heart strings and almost makes it seem as though its life is on the line and those who have dogs and in particular the same type of dog would make them even more motivated to donate, making this a clever marketing strategy. The rhetorical question creates strong imagery, we picture the worst which further victimises the poor innocent animal. The URL and search bar shows that they are there to help which persuades the possible hesitant target audience to seek help.

Gerbner cultivation theory Dixon:

Upon further reading i discovered that:

Gerbner suggests that televison drama is so reflective of the world that its difficult to understand that fictional products are not constructed versions of reality. Gerbner asks how much of our real world has been shaped by a fictional reality. Also the idea that the way media cover topics can influence people in different ways. For example, someone who is more privilaged and has never experience crime against them may hear it on the news and think it is much worse than it is due to all the coverage it is getting. Known as mean world syndrome.
